Dear Members, we have been invited to join some of the CT. All Breed Kennel Clubs to show off our breed and do some braging about our beautiful dogs and our club. Read on for more information about this exciting event. Each member is invited to participate with their dogs or puppy's of GOOD temperament only.

THIS is NOT A SHOW !!! it is a type of "Meet the Breed".
PETS - WORKING DOGS - RESCUE DOGS - SHOW DOGS - FAT DOGS - OLD DOGS - YOUNG DOGS - PUPPIES (3 months old and up) are all invited - ***GOOD TEMPERAMENT and groomed is the basic requirement.
On Saturday, Oct 22 2011 the Pet Expo will once again be held in Hartford at the Expo center right off RT 91 (directions will be sent with your packet if you sign up to attend with your dog). Start time is about 10 a.m. and we are asked to stay till closing about 4:30 p.m.. The kennel Clubs will provide Morning Hospitality and Lunch to the exhibitors. There is NOT going to be room for a club table but we can use the top of one of the crates to put our club flyer and bus. cards on.
The herding group usually goes in the ring about 3 p.m.. all exhibitor dogs go in. This is not a competition, we just walk around the ring as a group to show the public our breed (adults, pups, show, performance, pets, different colors, etc.)
Our members should let our Cor Sec (Barbara Newton barwenshepherds@sbcglobal.net) know if they are interested in exhibiting at the Pet Expo before Sept 30th so she can let the kennel club make all of the arrangements and get the paper work done and your Exhibitor Pass, directions, etc., can be sent to each of you that plan on attending.
Saturday is the day for the Herding breeds and some of the other large breeds to be exhibited. It is indoors. Bring a leash, collar, dog crate, your chair, water & dish for your dog.
Exhibitors can pass out their business cards to visitors who stop by to pet your dog and talk too you about the breed. Some just like to tell you about the shepherd they once had or have right now. Some ask for info about locating a breeder or who has puppy's. You can leave your area and walk around to visit the other exhibits. There is a cat show on the other end of the building. The time goes by rather quickly once the public starts coming thru and you loosen up and start talking too them. Its an informal event for the most part which helps too keep it friendly and inviting for the general public. Hundreds of people pass thru... looking to pet the dogs or just looking at different breeds that might appeal to their family situation.

When I went last year, I set up near the Conn Dog Federation Table because I helped with that a little bit. It turned out too be fun talking to the people who stopped by to look at my dog and pet her. She turned out too be quite the "ham" and ended up enjoying the petting part more than I thought she would. Near the end of the day (about 3 p.m. I think) each breed was asked to line up and come into the "ring". A description of the breed standard was read as I gaited my dog (She was the only German Shepherd there) around the ring and she stood in the center of the ring (stacked? kinda. I didn't do a very good job as I couldn't get back up after I stacked her, but we managed to carry it off and she stood while I pushed up using her for balance, kinda embarrassing but, Oh well....we lived thru it)
*** good temperament.. the public will expect to be able to touch your dog/puppy, there will be kids, adults, and people with handicaps - also other dogs and/or cats may pass by your crate/table so your dog should be able to handle most of this - I have attended these events several times and most people ask before touching - you can put your dog in its crate to give it a time off - dogs can be walked outside - bring your poop bags as you are expected to pick up after your dog, of course.
